Reception Educational Visit - West Lodge Farm 24.06.25

On Tuesday 24th June, our Reception children and staff enjoyed a wonderful visit to West Lodge Farm in Northamptonshire.

The children in Reception recently embarked on an exciting educational adventure to West Lodge Farm, where they enjoyed a day filled with hands-on experiences, discovery, and fun. The visit provided a fantastic opportunity for the young learners to connect with nature and learn about farm life.

One of the highlights for many children was the chance to get up close and personal with a variety of farm animals. They particularly loved the heartwarming experience of bottle-feeding baby lambs, a truly memorable moment that fostered a sense of care and connection with the animals. The children also had the opportunity to interact with other farm residents, learning about their habits and roles on the farm.

The adventure continued with an engaging tractor-trailer tour of the farm. Bouncing along, the children enjoyed panoramic views of the fields and animal enclosures, gaining a broader perspective of the farm's layout and operations. This immersive tour was a firm favourite, adding an element of excitement to their rural exploration.

Beyond animal encounters, the students delved into understanding farm food production. They learned about where their food comes from, observing different crops and discussing how they are grown. This segment of the visit helped to bridge the gap between farm and table, offering valuable insights into the agricultural process.

Adding to the day's entertainment, the children were thrilled to watch the energetic piglet races, cheering on their favourite contenders as the little pigs scampered towards the finish line. Laughter and excitement filled the air during this lively event.

To round off their fun-filled day, the reception classes made the most of the indoor and outdoor play areas. These spaces provided a perfect outlet for the children to burn off some energy, climb, slide, and engage in imaginative play with their friends.

It was evident that a truly lovely time was had by all. The educational visit to West Lodge Farm was a resounding success, offering the reception students a unique blend of learning, hands-on experiences, and pure enjoyment. They returned to school with broadened horizons, cherished memories, and perhaps a newfound appreciation for the world of farming.
