Celebrating Early Literacy Success with the National Literacy Trust

At Four Cs Trust Manor Drive Primary Academy, we are proud to celebrate the power of early literacy and the positive impact it has on children’s confidence, creativity and love of learning.
We are delighted to share a wonderful story from one of our families in Peterborough, recently featured by the National Literacy Trust, highlighting how access to stories and shared reading can make a lasting difference to a child’s educational journey.
One of our wonderful Reception students and his mother, who is a National Literacy Trust Champion, shared how reading has been central to family life from an early age. Storytime began as a comforting bedtime routine, creating precious moments to snuggle and enjoy books together. Over time, this love of reading grew, with books becoming accessible throughout the home, allowing curiosity and imagination to flourish naturally.
Through resources provided by the National Literacy Trust, the family was able to explore a wider range of stories and storytelling ideas, inspiring new ways to bring books to life. This engagement sparked creativity, with storytelling becoming a favourite activity, acting out characters and creating imaginative shows at home.
As her child prepared to start school, the benefits of this early literacy support became clear. A strong love of books helped to build confidence, strengthen listening skills and expand vocabulary. Most importantly, it nurtured curiosity about the world and a genuine enthusiasm for learning.
This story is a powerful reminder of how early literacy support, combined with strong family engagement, can have a meaningful and lasting impact.
