Dissecting Flowers: Curiosity in Action

Year Three pupils at Manor Drive Primary, part of the Four Cs Trust, have been busy stepping into the role of young botanists as they explored the fascinating question: What Do Flowers Do?
As part of their Science learning, the children investigated the structure and purpose of flowers, developing their understanding of key scientific vocabulary such as petals, sepals, pistil, stamen, reproduction and dissect.
The highlight of the lesson came when pupils independently dissected real flowers, carefully examining each internal part. Using their new knowledge, they identified the structures that help plants reproduce and discussed how each part contributes to the life cycle of flowering plants.
Throughout the activity, Year Three demonstrated impressive curiosity, enthusiasm, and scientific thinking.
