KS1 Explore Local Green Spaces and Share Their Vision for the Community

Manor Drive Primary Academy, part of the Four Cs Trust, enjoyed an inspiring collapsed curriculum day led by Mrs Owen, our Geography Lead, who designed a hands‑on learning experience focused on improving green spaces within the local community.
KS1 pupils began their day with a visit to the local park, where they explored how outdoor areas could be developed to better support play, nature, and community wellbeing. Children investigated the existing features of the park and discussed what could make the space even more inviting for families across Manor Drive.
To deepen the real‑world impact of their learning, Mrs Owen invited the Evening Telegraph to join the visit. Pupils spoke confidently about their ideas, sharing what they had noticed and what they hoped to see in the future.
Back at school, the children worked collaboratively to design their own improvement plans, sketching thoughtful proposals that included new play equipment, nature‑friendly planting, and accessible spaces for all ages.
As a final step in their project, KS1 pupils wrote a letter to the Local Council outlining their suggestions for enhancing play facilities in the Manor Drive community. Their letter reflects not only their creativity but also their growing understanding of how citizens can influence positive change in their local area.
This collapsed curriculum day showcased the power of meaningful, place‑based learning and highlighted the enthusiasm our pupils have for shaping the world around them.
