A Visit From Peterborough City Council: Learning to Care for Our Planet - 27.11.25

This week our school buzzed with curiosity as we welcomed the brilliant team from Peterborough City Council to educate us about recycling. Their visit transformed an ordinary school day into a colourful exploration of our planet’s future and the small actions we can take to protect it.

The day began with a lively whole-school assembly that whisked everyone into the world of recycling. Pupils were treated to surprising, sometimes jaw-dropping facts, by the staff from Peterborough City Council, about how long everyday items linger on Earth before breaking down. There was a collective ripple of gasps as we discovered the stubborn lifespan of plastics and the quiet endurance of tin cans. The council team also guided us through the sometimes puzzling landscape of local recycling bins, helping pupils feel confident about what goes where.

After the assembly, several classes dove into hands-on workshops that added a dash of playfulness to environmental learning. Pupils whirled through games, puzzles, and creative challenges designed to stretch their thinking about reducing waste, reusing materials, and recycling with care. The classrooms felt a little like laboratories of eco-curiosity, with pupils testing ideas, asking sharp questions, and discovering how their everyday choices leave ripples in the wider world.

The children returned to their lessons buzzing with energy, carrying new knowledge and a sense of responsibility that felt almost luminous. We love seeing pupils ignite with purpose, especially when it comes to shaping a greener future.

We’re excited about the possibility of working with Peterborough City Council again and continuing this journey toward a more environmentally friendly school. More eco-adventures are waiting just around the corner, and we can’t wait to explore them together! đŸŒ±
